Note for Hans
As of Friday morning I have been able to log onto the Walk To Beat Polio webmail only once, but email on our other 2 accounts is coming through on the computers.
If you cannot log into webmail next time you are near a computer, you can continue to use the comment section of the blog to communicate or, use my gmail account to send emails. Hopefully by the time you read this all will be well again. It's very frustrating.
Meanwhile, it's -6.2 degrees here. Yesterday morning it was -5. I think you have better weather.
(Not an actual picture of today as we have no snow, but it's darn cold anyway.)

I am in Fuente de Cantos about 22 km from where we stayed last night and where I emailed the update. As yesterday, I am using the system in the public library but everything is in Spanish and I am having problems even getting into the email system. Tried to get into Xplornet but no luck at all. My guess is that I will have to wait until I get to a larger centre such as Zafra or Caceres to find an internet cafe before I can use normal email services and read the "Walk to Beat Polio" emails.
My original plan was to walk about 28 km today, but Franck convinced me to stop here for a couple of reasons. For one there is a fantastic Albergue Turistico here where peregrinos get a break. We only pay 12€ including breakfast. Secondly, the albergue 6 km up the trail is actually about 1.7 km off the trail so we would have to walk an additional 3.4 km. Not something that is very appealing since both Franck and I are struggling with leg problems.
Franck has very bad blisters from using a relatively new pair of boots. He has arranged for his partner to mail his regular boots to Caceres (which we should reach in about a week).
I felt a bit better today. No problem with the knee but my legs are very sore. A double dose of Ibuprofen combined with the short distance today made it a pretty good day. I have also come to the conclusion that in addition to fitness my problem is that my backpack is significantly heavier than last year. I rested every hour for at least 5 minutes today and that also seemed to help. In any event I will persevere by going slower and perhaps not as far as I had planned for the next few days. I can always make up for the lost time by chucking one of my two rest days or by going further daily in the upcoming weeks.
Thats it for now! We are heading to a local restaurant for the local delicacy (pork) and red wine.
Love you
Hans
