Emergency Situation

Hope that got your attention! I am currently in Castrojeritz which is about 40km west of Burgos after my 12th day.

I have a minor emergency in that I am unable to get any money from the bank here in Spain. None of the bank machines (I have tried half a dozen banks) will accept my debit card. The card will not be sucked in by the machine. I have even had bank employees trying to get it to work without success. So, I went to option 2 which was to get money using my MasterCard. The bank machines accept my card but then request a PIN number and I am not aware of a PIN number for my MasterCard.

~ This emergency has now been resolved after my phone call to MasterCard. Hans is back in the money. And had that not worked and found himself in really dire straits, he was going to contact someone in Rotary in Leon, the next large centre, for some assistance. We know we can always count on a Rotarian for help. Isn't that great? ~Lo



Health is fine. No problems with feet or anything else.

Currently in Castrojeriz with 452km to go to Santiago. Have completed 324 KM.

No rain since the first two days. Expecting to travel 30-40 km tomorrow but will be dependent on finding a place to stay that has internet. Will try to write more later in the day but need to have a shower, wash some clothes and have something to eat.

Sounds like you're having a great time. Don't forget to enjoy the experience and not worry about the "record". Glad to hear your health and spirit is great. Money troubles on a trek....there's a new one!!
Find any interesting golf courses along the way? Get any logo balls for your collection (if so...that's cheating.) Take care. TTYL

Wow. Our days are full of strange sights and long hours. In the bus every morning at 7:00, and never home before 5:00. The summer palace was built by Rama V to commemorate the village where he met his wife. How romantic is that! The trouble with winter is…

The trouble with winters here is that they can be incredibly brutal. This is especially true when your driveway is 400' long, oriented east-west, and invitingly open to the howling north wind. Last night the afore-mentioned wind was an unwelcome escort on my drive home late in the evening. All the way home I contemplated whether or not I should risk driving my car down the driveway and into the garage, where it might get trapped overnight. I decided not to risk it. From the head of the driveway I phoned Hans to say I was leaving the car on the road, loaded up my stuff, wound my scarf around my head to ward off the wind, and opened the door. "The Party"

If you've seen the movie "The Party" with Peter Sellers, you'll be able to visualize the scene at dinner this evening. We had Rock Cornish Game Hens. Just as I was critizing someone else for their bad table manners, my cornish hen flew off my plate and skittered across the table. Bits of chicken went flying in all directions.
