Day 30, September 23: Olveiroa to Finisterre (35 km; 7:10)

Once again we left in heavy fog but the stars that peeked through from time to time suggested that it would be a nice day. And so it turned out to be.

We stopped at Hospital, the last place to get any food for 14 kilometres, where we had cafe con leche and a great bocadillo.

We followed the track through forests and moors, and then in the distance we saw our destination, Cabo Finisterre (Cape Finisterre) and the Atlantic Ocean.

There was a beautiful 'cruicero' (stone crucifix) at the overlook to Cee where we stopped to admire the view. From here it was a steep and rocky descent to the seashore.

It took another three hours to walk the last 15 kilometres to Finisterre with yet another steep ascent from the sea over the hills, and then down to the sea again. The last few kilometres were a pleasant walk along the beach.

At the modern albergue in the heart of the town, we got a bed as well as our fisterrana, a certificate of the completion of the pilgrimage to Finisterre.

Finisterre is a colourful working port trying to be modern despite its quaintness. The multi-coloured fishing boats bobbing in the harbour are testimony to its dependence on the sea.
